The Idea
The vision behind this initiative was inspired by David Kehler, CEO of Bridge Beyond International, who has been a key driving force behind our ball-making journey. His passion for sustainable, locally driven solutions sparked the idea to tackle the ball scarcity in Rwanda and across Africa. Through his encouragement and leadership, we began to look inward—realizing that we had the hands, the heart, and the potential right here in our communities to create our own footballs. His belief in empowering local talent continues to shape and fuel this movement today.
About the Project
The Ball-Making Project was launched with a simple but powerful vision: to ensure every child in Rwanda has access to a high-quality football. We noticed that many children, especially in underserved communities, love the game but lack proper equipment. Our response was to start making durable, affordable, and community-friendly footballs handcrafted in Rwanda, designed to withstand rough terrain and bring joy to every kick. These balls are more than just playthings; they are tools for learning, bonding, and discovering potential.
Our Impact
Over the past two years, this project has already made a meaningful difference. Thousands of children across the country now play with locally made balls that last, giving them the chance to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game fully. At the same time, the project has created valuable jobs for local artisans many of whom are women providing them with sustainable income, skill-building opportunities, and a sense of purpose. Each ball carries not just stitching, but stories of empowerment and hope for both the maker and the player.
Our Vision
Looking ahead, we aim to expand production, improve ball quality even further, and partner with more communities, schools, and churches. We believe that by putting footballs into the hands of children, we are also placing dreams at their feet. With continued support, this project will keep growing—bridging gaps, building futures, and proving that something as simple as a ball can change lives in the most extraordinary ways.
